Jumping on the bandwagon OOPS but I wanted to make one hahah! Was going to make something cool but then I found this…

Two far ends of a picture; the very first sketch that’s very scribbly (and a bit silly in this case..) just to lay down the initial idea. Doesn’t matter if it’s not the most anatomically correct thing ever, I normally just do something like this in a few minutes to get the idea out of my head. After this I’d refine the sketch on a new layer and then start colouring.
Then the finished work! A lot happened between these stages naturally but I don’t seem to have any other wips saved. But just thought it’d be interesting in a way comparing the very first sketch and the finished painting :)

HOW DO I INSTAGRAM didn’t manage to get this here through that so just had to print screen asdfg…. but working on something, haven’t used scratchboard since I was 10 years old and doing those ready made pictures haha. Needs getting used to it again but it’s a lot of fun. And the photo’s not very good but what can you do urgh going to look better scanned.
Also will be most likely streaming the art raffle pictures this weekend! Been working on uni stuff all week since my hand in is on Friday but after that… freedom! Just wanted to give this stuff a go since it just arrived in the mail. So WIP WIP WIP (and I don’t like the nose, might be able to tell that was the first thing I worked on hahah), not sure how it’s gonna end up looking like but having fun so far.

Also super excited, just got a “job”! In “” cos it’s a volunteer position, I’ll be working in a local RSPCA cat house/centre taking photos of the cats up for adoption to put on their website and ads etc. Met some of the cats today, so much fun and I love taking photos of animals and now I get to go there every week and take photos of them and help out. ;u; yey!
And on another note, working on a pretty cool project! Nothing really to do with drawing/painting this time, and it’s gonna take a while to gather all the materials and get it done. But having a lot of fun planning things out already!

I decided to do a little art raffle to give something back and it’s always fun drawing other people’s characters :)

# A painting/scenery background I did for my uni project, still a bit WIP and working on the colours, will possibly do some colour editing on it in PS.
But sort of imitating a Japanese/oriental ink painting style. Done with black in and pinkish watercolour on A3 paper. Nice loose style to work on :)

i just did a cool thing that i think would be useful if you’re like me and sometimes have a hard time picking colours / a colour scheme for an image
basically i just took a brush with moderate spacing, turned on colour dynamics and set all the hue/sat/brightness to a low (~10%-30%) jitter, picked a base colour, and drew a line down the side of the canvas
it’s sort of like when some people save colour swatches so they can keep their shading consistent, but more for playing around with different tones and lighting on a single surface. it’ll probably be pretty good for skin which is very multi-tonal by nature.
a lot of colours came out that i probably wouldn’t have picked manually, but they still looked pretty cool. and it saves a lot of time because now i have a broad range of colours without having to browse through my pantone swatches or open up the colour picker.

Oohh found out how to change the photo layout! Too simple again, just dragging the pics or something..
But going back to basics, been doing really quick landscape studies/thumbnails lately. Each took around 20 mins, they’re really messy and scribbly but the point was to focus on the shapes and atmosphere and not so much on the details. I actually really like doing these! I normally tend to focus too much on the (possibly unnecessary) details so it’s good and surprisingly fun to stay away from that for a change.
Shown at 50% of the original size so they’re not too big to begin with. All are based on stock photos that can be found on DA.
Didn’t use the colour picker or PS effects in any of them, wanted to see if I can get the colours right and mostly happy with them! Used a few custom brushes,
More to come I’m sure! Will be aiming to do a few every day, really good practice. I need iiitttt.
